SMART ARCHIVE - Flexible archiving solutions to encompass any client requirements

SMART ARCHIVE is suite of solutions to streamline archiving needs and ranging from simple removable solution up to fully automated Disk or Tape archive systems

Smart Archive: One of the most critical and expensive task of Tapeless Television is Digital Archiving System. For those broadcasters that already migrated to file based system it is well known how fragile Digital Tape Library System is, while demanding several efforts for continuous maintenance.

To streamline such a complex task, Media-Alliance integrated and/or developed scalable smart archiving solutions which include the support of single stand alone disks, disk archive ALTO, Tape Libraries or mixed solutions with mirroring and multi sites capabilities.

Removable Archive: The solution is based on standard PC offering capabilities to store/backup data over removable hard disk with docking station or stand alone LTO Tape Drive. For Docking Station we mean a simple device to temporarily support insertion and extraction of removable Hard Disk, as in the picture below and similar solution is available also for data tape Data Tape.

Support for ALTO: Media-Alliance has been the first company of the market to integrate ALTO as archiving device. ALTO (by Disk Archive Corporation) is a scalable, flexible and highly secure alternative to a Data Tape Library for media storage, offering faster access for many more users with a low capital outlay and very low total cost of ownership.

A number of historical arguments favored data tape as an archive medium including low media cost, high capacity and robustness, but ultimately the performance of a Data Tape Library is limited by the complex mechanical systems for selecting and loading the data tapes; sequential access to the data stored on linear tapes; the need to share a limited number of Reading and Writing devices and significant routine maintenance and downtime.

ALTO takes advantage of recent developments in disk drive technology and new strategies for data protection to offer unique performance and economic benefits whilst at the same time eliminating widely held concerns about the security and running costs of high capacity Drives in data storage arrays. Tapeless workflows are already firmly established in Media Acquisition, Production and Distribution. Now with ALTO the same benefits are available for Archives and Content Libraries. Today Media-Alliance has more than 30 archiving systems installed in the world based on ALTO.

Enterprise archiving solutions supporting multiple sites and mirroring with tape libraries or mixed devices that could include Disk Archive ALTO, NAS and Optical Disks Juke Box and with the support of LTFS
